Our Own Events

The next Meeting of Friends in Wales:

25th February, St Thomas Church, LAMPETER

our speaker will be Jane Laxton of Quaker Concern for the Abolition of Torture discussing:

Quakers and Torture:

  • ‘Torture weakens the civil society that condones it.’
  • ‘Torture has been described as “the mother of all human rights violations”. As long as countries practise torture, people will be unwilling to assemble and will not speak or write openly about their criticisms of their government.’
  • ‘We are holding the Government to task…’

Q-CAT is a separate trust whose main focus is on educating Friends and others about the ban on torture and the realities of the present day situation, upholding the Quaker testimony to peace, equality and working towards healing and reconciliation. Central England, North Wales and Wirral & Chester area meetings have been authorised to carry forward the concern on behalf of Britain Yearly Meeting. Read about it at www.q-cat.org  Jane Laxton  is a Trustee of Q-Cat.
